Both Foreign Broadcast Information Service (1941-1996) AND BBC Monitoring Summary of World Broadcasts (1939-2001) are Open-Source INTelligence sources. Open-source intelligence (OSINT) is the collection and analysis of data gathered from open sources like radio and television – is a critical component of research projects covering the 20th century. Both FBIS and BBC M SWB act as important foundational records of world history with first-hand, real-time coverage of 20th-century people, places, and global events. FBIS was from the predecessor to the CIA (USA), and the BBC M SWB was obviously British. Open-Source Intelligence around the world from 1939 – 2001 is covered by these 2 complementary resources.

Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS) Daily Reports was created by the CIA to advise American policy makers about global threats, political action, and strategic policy. It consists of millions of transcripts of original radio broadcasts from foreign government and news services, including breaking news, live interviews, political speeches, editorial commentary, international propaganda, and other materials. Fully searchable digital edition of the United States’ principal record of political and historical open-source intelligence.
